Dear Lectors,
The word of God, proclaimed in the sacred Scriptures, enlightens our minds and hearts. When the Scriptures are read in the liturgical assembly, God speaks to us and calls us to respond in faith and love. The ministry of the reader, then is important to the life of the Church, for the reader proclaims God’s living word.
If you are scheduled to Lector, please either be there at your appointed Mass or get another Lector to sub for you. If you do need to get a sub, please let me know also. That way I will know who is to be responsible for your service and you will not be held responsible should your sub not show up to proclaim in your place.
Please familiarize yourself with the following proper etiquette for approaching the Altar and Ambo.
1. Sit in one of the first 4 pews for easy in and out access on the North isle
2. At the time of your reading, step out into the aisle; walk forward to the first step, bow and walk up the steps approaching from the North side of the Ambo.
3. At completion of reading, return to your seat WITHOUT bowing, by way of the North side, not center isle.
4. If you are the second lector you will deliver the prayers of the faithful. During the recitation of the Creed, as soon as we complete “He has spoken through the Prophets”, GET UP AND MOVE TO THE NORTH SIDE OF THE AMBO. This will have you by the side of the ambo before Fr intro prayer begins. Just before Father begins the prayer step into place behind the ambo, pick up the ‘Prayers of the Faithful’ sheet and be ready to begin reading as soon as Father has finished.
5. When finished with the ‘Prayers of the Faithful’, stay in place until Fr North side aisle, once again WITHOUT bowing.
As a group, I believe that we are extremely GREAT Lectors.
If you have ANY COMPLAINTS, they are welcomed to be heard by ME. I cannot fix it if I do not know that it is broken.
Please:
- Voice your opinions to ME
- Provide your email addresses to ME
- Provide your Mass time preferences to ME
- Provide your unavailable dates to ME
- If you need to find a Lector Sub, contact ME
Thank you for your dedicated service, you are doing such a SUPER job!
Everlasting God,
When he read in the synagogue at Nazareth, your Son proclaimed the good news of salvation for which he would give up his life. Bless these Lectors. As they proclaim your words of life, strengthen their faith that they may read with conviction and boldness, and put into practice what they read.
Amen.
Your Sister in Christ,
Lisa Linnebur
