R.O.C.
Rite of Confirmation - St. Patrick Catholic Church
Christian Initiation – The Catechism states that, “Baptism, the Eucharist, and the Sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the ‘Sacraments of Christian Initiation’…(that) the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of Baptismal grace.” – CCC, 1258
Meaning that after the reception of the gift and Sacrament of Confirmation, you are fully initiated into the Catholic Faith.
Welcome – We, the leaders at St. Patrick are very excited that you have chosen to receive this Sacrament. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC), “preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit…To this end, catechesis (preparation) for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ the universal Church as well as the parish community.” – CCC, 1309
The formation process for receiving this Sacrament is based upon this goal of knowing Jesus, the Church, and to be a well formed Catholic Christian. The R.O.C. program is designed not to know everything there is to know about the Catholic Church, rather it is designed to strengthen what you have been learning through involvement with Religious Education. It is our hope that at the end of the R.O.C. program you will passionately know more about your faith, feel a sense of belonging in the Church, and be closer to Christ more intimately than ever before!
Receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation will complete your Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation); however, it is far from the end of your spiritual growth. WE hope you will not approach this year as the “last thing” or “graduation” you need to do in your faith, but another step as you continue to grow and go deeper into the beauty of the Catholic Church and the love of Christ. The Core Team, your parents, the parish, Fr. Mocio, and I are here for you if you need anything! Come with an open heart and mind. Let the Lord love and embrace you.
